What is Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)?
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a condition that affects people’s behaviour. People with ADHD can seem restless, may have trouble concentrating and may act on impulse.
Symptoms of ADHD tend to be noticed at an early age and may become more noticeable when a child’s circumstances change, such as when they start school.
Adults with ADHD may find they have problems with:
- organisation and time management
- following instructions
- focusing and completing tasks
- coping with stress
- feeling restless or impatient
- impulsiveness and risk taking
Some adults may also have issues with relationships or social interaction.
Look at how at the BBC News story on how an ADHD assessment can work privately even if you don’t meet the NHS criteria.
ADHD testing – using the QBCheck test.
The NICE medtech innovation briefing (MIB 318) for QbTest for the assessment of attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) Published: 07 March 2023. -states that the QbTest is being used at 131 sites across 65 NHS trusts. At ADHD Expertise, we know its excellent, so we use it as part of our ADHD assessment process.
However, you can’t assess ADHD on this alone- indeed the NICE National Institute for Health Care Excellence Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder: diagnosis and management NICE guideline Published: 14 March 2018 Last updated: 13 September 2019 states that its only part of the assessment.
That’s why we will also conduct a clinical interview and history in line with the NICE guidance
You can see the test and sample chart with this video.
Watch this video from university of Nottingham to see an old QBCheck test- we use the newest version on the laptop
With our Up-to-date version we do not need a headband of hand controller- the laptop does it all

Sadly, for some women, ADHD diagnosis is subject to gender bias, as a result they often feel misunderstood- look at the BBC news report on this important issue.
